The headlight bulb is the part to replace on the 96 Sentra, unless the whole headlight unit was damaged. Driver Side: 1 Remove the 10 mm bolt that holds the air box down this is on the gold colored bracket on the driver-side fender. Pull up on these clips and pull them off. Then disconnect the connectors and remove the five bolts holding the headlight in place. You can then lift the top of the air box out of the way.
On the passenger side, there is a small plastic radiator overflow tank. You have to press it towards the front of the car and swing it towards the passenger side. Pull the bulb from the socket. To remove it, first remo … ve the socket attached to it, then press the top of the metal spring clip towards the front of the car and towards the passenger side look closely at the clip to see the latch holding it. Now, if you want to replace the bulb or complete set, then you have plenty of room to unscrew and replace the whole kit or just replace the bulb. Once you have this out, the bulbs are easy to access. I do suggest that after you get the bulbs in and are sure that the round covers are in place correctly as I mentioned, that was the biggest problem I had to turn the lights on and make sure they work. If necessary, gently pry the socket's retaining clip over the projection on the bulb use care not to break the clip. This includes driving your Maxima around at night and driving while there's fog. Note: I found it difficult to align the covers behind the lights.
